SPECIAL CONSTABLES SERVING DANGRIGA Jul 03, 2012

 

A new team of special constables is now serving the municipality of Dangriga, in the Stann Creek district.  Correspondent Harry Arzu has the story.

“Twenty special constable were sworn in today at an official ceremony held at the Dangriga Town Hall.  Senior Supt. Robert Mariano, told Love News that this initiative under joint effort of the Dangriga Town Council and the Dangriga Police Station.  Asst. Supt. Julio Vasquez was one of the facilitators during a three day training that was held last month.  Tell us about the training of these special constables and what are their responsibilities and powers.

“The duties entails the general police duties, the prevention of crimes, the apprehension of offence, the investigation of crimes also and we also touched on the constitution of Belize and mainly focus on the general aspect of general policing.

“Roman Sabal is the Traffic Manager at the Dangriga Town Council.  Tell us about the work of the officers in realation to traffic.”

 

ROMAN SABAL, Traffic Manager

“Besides the daily and regular traffic patrol that we do, now the Dangriga Town Council Traffic Warden now has as much authority as the police.  For example, they can now escort and uninsured driver to the police station, impound their vehicle, then arrest and charge them.  That is one aspect of the new duties.”
