One man is shot then assaulted at a bar in Orange Walk Town. The shooting happened at the Palapa Bar and Grill at 39 Belize Corozal Road Orange Walk Town. According to official police reports, on Sunday around eight forty-five in the night 42 year old Elvis Hernandez, Nicaraguan of San Pedro Town was sitting inside the Palapa Bar when Peter Hankook, the owner of the establishment entered and fired a single shot at Hernandez. The bullet found its mark on Hernandez’s left hip, but as it turned out, Hankook was not done yet as he took a wooden chair and hit Hernandez on the head causing two cut wounds. Hernandez was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital for medical attention where he was admitted in stable condition. Authorities recovered one nine millimetre expended shell from the bar, one slug, and a broken chair. A nine millimetre Lugar pistol and one magazine with sixteen live rounds Aguila brand were retrieved from Peter Hankook, who also presented a valid license for the firearm. Hankook was detained and police continue their investigation.

Police are also investigating two separate stabbing incidents that occurred on Sunday July 29. Police report that one incident took place at the Orange Walk People’s Stadium at around three in the morning. Sixteen year old Luis Vega, resident of Black Water Creek Area, Orange Walk District was stabbed five times to the left upper part of his back and was hospitalized in serious condition. Police have not detained anyone and are investigating the incident.  The second incident occurred at least forty-five minutes later on Sunday morning at Butchy’s Night Club in Orange Walk Town. Official reports indicate that 27 year old Guyen Gaynair, a fireman of Corozal Town and 24 year old Jermaine Tillett of Belize City were involved in an altercation with other patrons at the night club. Gaynair was stabbed to his left knee and right eyelid. Tillett sustained stab wounds to the left side of his chest and the left side of his back. They were admitted at the Northern Regional Hospital for treatment. Police are investigating.
