Businessman Detained for Allegedly Assaulting A Policeman Aug 06, 2012

 

Belize City businessman, thirty two year old Gilroy Usher, Junior is in police detention pending charges as a result of a fight on Friday afternoon.  According to police reports, Usher, along with police constable Edgar Poot and Court Bailiff Gabriel Casey were inside of the Bailiff’s office located at the Magistrate Court building when an argument broke out between Usher and Casey. Police say that Constable Poot attempted to escort Usher out of the office when a struggle ensued between him and Usher. During the scuffle, Usher allegedly punched the policeman to the right side of the face and swung his right hand to his right side at which time a black firearm fell to the floor.  The policeman says that fearing for his life he grabbed a hold of Usher who was struggling with him trying to pick up the firearm.  Police have since recovered a licensed 9 millimeter firearm and a magazine with 9 live rounds of matching ammunition from Usher. Police have since detained Gilroy Usher, Junior pending charges.
