A father of two young children was executed on Sunday night in Belize City.  Thirty-three year old Felix Godoy, also known as “Munchie” was shot dead while sitting on the back steps of his house at 6572 Corner Doris Brooks Street and Boots Crescent.  The employee of the Conscious Youth Development Programme had reportedly just arrived home at about seven p.m., after playing a game of basketball in the area when someone entered his yard and walked right up to him from behind and shot him several times at close range in the head.  Today his grief-stricken brother, Arlon Godoy, spoke with reporters about his brother’s execution.

“Yes, he was cooling out and getting ready to smoke a weed and cooling out, getting ready to go inside to his family.  Then I got a phone call from my co-worker telling me to hurry come back here because my brother just got shot.  Well I wasn’t really panicking because I didn’t think it was death but when I got there I saw him brutally murdered.  I have no idea who it was and I don’t care why.”

“Now, those who knew him know he isn’t a man who gives any trouble, why would somebody have executed him on the stairs like that?  Do you know if the man had any rivalry or beef or if somebody was after the man?”

“Good question. I, myself want to know but nothing to my knowledge because when he comes around we don’t talk about anything like that.  We talk about basketball and his daughter at times.  He had just asked me for some assistance with my niece and I told him I would get back to him later.  We were at the Chinese shop cooling out.”

The police are still trying to establish a motive, but have detained someone they believe was the triggerman.

“He had several gunshot wounds to the body.  Initial investigations reveal that Godoy was sitting on his stairs when he was approached from behind by a lone gunman who fired several shots at him fatally injuring him.  Looking at the execution style, we believe that we have the main suspect detained.  We hope that at the end of the day we can bring some form of closure to the family and to the public.  To outright say that it may have been a gang rivalry would be unfair at this time because we have not yet established a motive for that execution type murder.”

It is expected that the person in custody will be charged for murder.
