Ministry of Education Says Teachers Manual Will Be Revised Sep 12, 2012

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has decided to withdraw the teachers’ manual, "Education Today For A Healthy Tomorrow - Teachers’ Guide: Lessons for the HFLE Curriculum."

A release from the Ministry says the manual in its present form has been withdrawn. This is as a result of sustained concerns raised by a committee headed by Pastor Louis Wade and others.

Earlier this year the Ministry of Education convened a committee to review the manual to assess its fit with the objectives of the HFLE curriculum including the accuracy of its content and the age appropriateness and to make recommendations for possible revision to the guide and strategies to more effectively engage parents in schools as it relates to HFLE and in particular to educating students about sex, sexuality and sexual and reproductive health.

The Ministry says it will proceed with convening the committee that was put together earlier this year. The release goes on to say while it is concerned about assertions  in the media about hidden agendas in the manual that could undermine the true intent of the HFLE curriculum it is nonetheless open to honest, productive dialogue with stakeholders.
