Belmopan Police Plans for Stricter Laws for Clubs
Sep 17, 2012
Meanwhile Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sinquest Martinez, who heads the Belmopan CIB, told reporters that there will be some stringent measures taking place in that area as it relates to public socializing and violence that usually follows. This comes on the heels of Belisle’s murder which happened just outside a club in the Belmopan proper. In Martinez’ words “the good will suffer for the bad”.

“We have gotten in touch with the City Council and we will meet with the Liquor License Board and I believe some just and swift action will be taken and the good will suffer for the bad. What we are noticing for the past three weeks is that after these establishments are being closed, that is when we have all these altercations that involve only youths and minors, between the ages of 17 to 24. We have something in plan when we meet with the Liquor License Board this week; some people won’t like the idea with the direction we are going because all license are until midnight and extensions are not a must. We need the owners of these businesses to work along with us and if they are not working along with us then the heat will come on them. I don’t want to say exactly what we are planning but we just got out of a meeting,”
