“As you probably know, several weeks ago we launched a similar package in Benque Viejo which covers street works of Benque Viejo del Carmen, San Ignacio, Santa Elena and Punta Gorda.  The one we launched this morning is a two point one million dollar package and that will include works to enhance Nim Li Punit, Hummingbird and Racoon Streets in the City of Belmopan; we will do Punta Gorda and 1st Street North in Corozal Town and Santa Familia Street in Orange Walk Town.  Basically the scope of works include the alignment of streets, side drains, re-servicing of streets either with hot mix or chip steel, the provision of street markings for vehicle and pedestrian lanes are also included as part of the package.  The project that was launched this morning will be carried out by A & M Construction which is a local firm.  What is important to note also is that with this combined packages including other works we have done in Punta Gorda Town, as you know we have rehabilitated the Administration Office for the Town Council including the Town Hall and we are also doing the rehabilitation and the expansion of the Dangriga Town Market – combine those packages including the ones I described earlier, we have approximately over seven million Belize dollars that have already been contracted or in the process of being executed in terms of the project.”

Minister of Health and Area Representative for Corozal Bay, Pablo Marin, delivered the keynote address during this morning’s ceremony.  Other speakers at the ceremony included Mayor of Orange Walk Town, Kevin Bernard; Mayor of Corozal Town, Hilberto Campos, councilor from the Belmopan City Council, Anna Guy who spoke on behalf of her council and Executive Director of the Social Investment Fund, Daniel Cano among others.
