Policeman Loses Home In Fire After Losing Both Legs in Traffic Incident Oct 01, 2012

A Saturday morning fire in Punta Gorda has left a house partially destroyed.  Correspondent Paul Mahung reports.

“An early Saturday morning fire has left a house partly damaged and household items belonging to a police officer destroyed by fire in Punta Gorda.

The occupant of the house Sgt. Mark August was not at home at the time of the fire incident as he is currently in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital recovering from a recent motor cycle accident on the Southern Highway. Officer in Command of the Toledo Police Formation, Inspector Ornel Dominguez spoke of the fire incident.”

“Sometime around two twenty five in the morning on Saturday, September twenty ninth, PG Police responded to a report of a fire in the Indianville area of Punta Gorda Town. Initial investigations reveal that the home of Police Sergeant Mark August was on fire.  From Police’ accounts, reaching on the scene they observe fire coming out from a front window of the building, faced east direction.  Further investigation into the fire, Police found out that in the building at the time of the fire was one, Darren Sambula, a Punta Gorda resident who appears to have been burnt as a result of the blaze.  He was taken to the Punta Gorda Hospital and later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.”
