Jasmine Alert Program Sends Out First Text Message For Missing Teen Oct 16, 2012

The first text dispatched on Sunday as part of the Jasmine Alert program has to do with a seventeen year old youth who went missing at around one on Sunday morning from his home.

Sergeant Dehanne Augustine

National Coordinator

Jasmine Alert Program

“Hugo Moreno, seventeen years, second form student of Bishop Martin High School went missing about 1:00am on Sunday.  When Hugo arrived home at about one o’clock, he had a misunderstanding with his father and Hugo walked out of the house and hasn’t been seen since one o’clock Sunday morning.  The family of Moreno has been to Chetumal, Corozal, Orange Walk and in Belize City looking for their son because they continuously are getting leads that their son is being seen in these areas.  The residents of Orange Walk have gone ahead and made posters of Hugo; they have also involved the Bishop Martin High School in the search of this young man.  I recently spoke to the mother about twenty minutes ago and they are still looking for their son. So far, we haven’t gotten anymore leads to say where this young man is.  He left his home and the father is saying that they have no idea where the young man and this is the very first time something like this has happened – they are very concerned for their child.  He does not give any trouble, he goes to church and go home but they made mention that he was in the company of a male person from Belize City and that’s the reason they came to Belize City; they were in Belize City last night and the police officers here assisted them in taking them in different areas in Belize City.  The parents aren’t aware that he has friends here but they are saying that the young man is a friend.  This text is to show that Hugo Moreno is missing; we don’t what his situation is or where he is at this moment and we are asking that the community assist us in locating this young man.”

Sergeant Dehanne Augustine who is the National Coordinator for the Jasmine Alert Program, says that this first test of the texting system for the program has worked successfully and there are only a few glitches they have to iron out to improve on the way it is handled.
