Love FM and the Belize Tourism Board have partnered to bring Belize the first ever BTB Love Belize Sea Challenge. The competition will see kayakers paddle 190 miles along Belize’s coast, starting from Punta Gorda Town to Corozal Town. The kayakers take off from Punta Gorda Town on May 17 and will push through five days of competition culminating on May 21 in Corozal Town. Karen Pike, Director of Marketing and Industry Relations at the BTB says that the event is a perfect opportunity to keep marketing Belize as a tourist destination. The idea is to market the event locally and more importantly, internationally.
Karen Pike, Director of Marketing and Industry Relations, BTB: “We’re going to be able to give focus to some of our coastal properties which will definitely highlight some of our culture, some of our local communities and just give them exposure and know that BTB fully supports them. What’s more is that the exposure will be given to Belize in terms of its marine life, in terms of what is does for sustainability of our marine life. This will be brought out in the various promotions and for us that is very important for us on a global scale because that is definitely looked at by the global community that looks at destinations for travel as well as for support.”
Reporter: Any particular areas of focus internationally that you want to bring in to Belize through this event?
Karen Pike, Director of Marketing and Industry Relations, BTB: “Well definitely North America, that is actually our main source market so we definitely look to expand exposure there. We’ve been known to do certain promotions there and get millions of impressions so we fully expect that with the assistance of our marketing agency in the US we’ll be able to get international exposure there as well as globally for this event.”
Throughout the five day challenge, kayakers will make overnight stops in Placencia Village, Dangriga and Belize City.
