Love FM welcomes Jamaican artists for Saturday concert

6 min read

The Cucumber Beach at Old Belize will be transformed this weekend as four of Jamaica’s golden singers will take to one stage and celebrate Love FM’s 25th anniversary with their best hits. We are talking about Lloyd Lovindeer, “the doctor of science”; Ernie Smith; Pluto Shervington and Boris Gardiner. They touched down today at the Philip Goldson International Airport, two days ahead of the highly anticipated concert.  And what can Belizeans expect to hear? Well, only the good old tunes that have become classics of a generation that never gets old.

“I’m here to bring all the vibes from Jamaica and to bring more love into the situation and give them all the hits they have had over the years like Babylon Boops, Don’t Bend Down, Man Shortage, One Day Christian, Poco Party, Pocomania Day, Wild Gilbert, just to have a good time and celebrate with Love FM.”

Ernie Smith

“I’m here to share as usual, a good time, a happy time, a fun time and a reggae time”

“So we can hear all your hits this Saturday night?”

Ernie Smith

“Yes, yes, yes. All the hits”

Dalila Ial – Reporter

“Any favorite for you?”

Ernie Smith

“Well my favorite has always been I Can’t Take It, the first song I wrote in 1967 so I have to do that one and then there’s Duppy Gunman, Play The Music and a lot of songs.”

“All the old ones that you know like Ramgoat Liver, (singing) Saturday coming I gaan to cucumba beach, all of the old tunes like Your Honor, Dat,  all the old old songs that you know well is what you’re going to hear that night.”

Boris Gardiner

“The best of Boris. I was here in the seventies. In those days I had a band that came and performed hits like Oh My Commanding Wife, Love’s Been Good to Me, Jean and all these songs. We were really accepted and everybody in that era loved us and since then I was never asked to come back all these years, even when I made my hit, I Want To Wake Up with You in 1986 but better late than never and I am back here to put on what I hope is one of those good shows.”

And if that’s not enough to tickle your interest, here’s a personal invitation from all four singers to join in a night of celebration with Love FM.

“Come out and have a good time. Love FM 25, No jive. Lovindeer is here, the Doctor of Science, Yeah Man.”

Ernie Smith

“Everybody come on out in your numbers because party time is here. It’s fun to see Boris Gardiner, Lovindeer and Pluto because I’ve been coming here alone the last couple of years and its nice to have a little group from yard.”

Dalila Ical – Reporter

“So it’s going to be explosive with the four ?”

Ernie Smith

“Yes man.”

“Come on with an open mind and have a great time.”

“Ernie Smith and myself go way back from in the seventies and he is one of the stalwarts of reggae music, there’s Lovindeer who is one of the dynamic DJs and the great Pluto Shervington so we expect to give you all the best and we hope everyone will be coming out to enjoy the wonderful show.”

The show will be held at Old Belize, this Saturday. Also performing on stage will be Supa G, C-Wills, Dawgie Harrison, Kenny Gladden and the New Creation Band and Gillharry 7 Band. The public is invited to join the show as we celebrate 25 years of Love and Dr. Rene Villanueva’s fiftieth year in broadcasting.
