Mai’s case adjourned

1 min read

Orange Walk South area representative Jose Mai’s case was to proceed today before Justice Courtney Abel; however, it was adjourned to September 25, for oral submission. As we told you in a previous newscast, Mai is being sued for causing the death of Julia Arana.  In April 2016, Mai, was the driver of a vehicle, which knocked down Julia Arana who was attempting to cross the street in the vicinity of San Martin gas station in Trial Farm Village on the Philip Goldson Highway. The accident left her in a comatose state for some time.  Arana was eventually released from the hospital, but later died at her home.  Mai was not criminally charged since the results of the post-mortem stated that Arana died due to acute cardio-respiratory failure and severe bilateral broncho pneumonia. However, Edgar Nissani Arana, Administrator of the Estate of Julia Arana represented by attorney Sheena Pitts is suing Mai for damages. Mai has maintained that he did not cause the accident.  He is being represented by attorney, Julie Ellis-Bradley.
