Minister Manuel Heredia said the new runway came at hefty price.
Manuel Heredia Jr. Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation: “Implemented at a cost of $3.6 million the Caye Caulker municipal airport is now one of the latest and most modern Municipal air drums in the country. The engineer team included substantial work to the runaway but the laying of thousands of yards of geograde to provide better earth stability. Over 24,000 cubic yards of filling material also spread and compacted. The new runway is asphalted with hot mix and is 2840 feet long by 40 ft wide with 10 feet shoulders on each side providing greater safety and comfort to users and operators. Essentially marking and lighting system is in compliance with ICO standards have also been installed. Important features of the runaway design include threshold markings, runway orientation numbers, runway marking, center line marking, taxi centerline, runway hold position markings and aircraft parking stalls with transversal top line.”
It is expected that the island will benefit from the airstrip’s reopening, especially in times of emergency.

In terms of security I can announce that the aerodrome will be fenced to ensure its security and safety. It is certainly no exaggeration to see that Caye Caulker’s safety is surely accessible all year and in all seasons.”
