Another murder for 2018 was recorded in Belize City on Friday night. The incident did not occur in a gang affiliated area, but on the entertainment strip. It was only a matter of time until someone lost their life at the BTL Park at a bar which sells alcohol. Violent incidents had occurred at the Pier One bar, but none had resulted in death until Friday night. Sources told Love news that the violence may have been retaliation for a previous murder that happened recently on the street.
Jose Sanchez: “The BTL Park is considered one of the few remaining safe places in Belize City but on Friday night while families and friends socialized in the park the one establishment licensed to sell alcohol erupted with violence.Twenty year old Asher Sanders became involved in a fight at the Pier One club in Belize City shortly before midnight. During the altercation Sanders was shot to the left side of his head. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”
ASP Alejandro Cowo: “Precinct 3 Police responded to a shooting incident at Pier One and as a result upon arrival they were informed that the victim who was identified as Asher Sanders of a Baghdad St. address was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the back of his head. Upon Police arrival at the Hospital Mr. Sanders had passed away. What Police has gathered so far is that Mr. Sanders and others were at Pier One socializing when a dispute happened amongst a group of male persons. Police intervened to stop the fight and whilst Police was intervening the fight someone fired a shot hitting Mr. Sanders to the back of his head. Investigation is pointing out that yes he was the intended target.”
Jose Sanchez: “Reports are that the incident was the retaliation of the murder of Arthur Taz Flowers. Sanders was an associate of Kentroy Mckoy who was charged with Flowers’ murder.
ASP Alejandro Cowo: “I can’t say if he is an associate but I can say that they are friends.”
Jose Sanchez: “Do you still recommend that place to be open for public safety?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo: “Well that is something that whenever the Liquor Licensing Board meet and especially when it comes to the renewal of licenses for every year that, that is a recommendation that the Police recommend to them; the safety of such a building or place is not safe for people to frequent but it is just a recommendation that the Police gives the board.”
Jose Sanchez: “What is your recommendation for that establishment today if you are going to the Liquor board? What is it?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo: “Well that is a decision that the persons who are involved with the Liquor board will have to deal with and not me.”
Jose Sanchez: “On September 27th another violent stabbing occurred at Pier One. It evolved into two shooting incidents on Neal Penn Rd. The contract for the bar at the BTL Park is with the Belize City Council. Jose Sanchez for Love News.”
Mayor Bernard Wagner will hold a press briefing tomorrow to address the violence in BTL Park.
