May 14, 2009
Community activism is one thing. Entertainment promotion is another. Combining the two just might be a mutually beneficial partnership for artists and promoters as it is would be for the communities they visit. That is the underlying idea behind a much needed facelift the basketball court in the ‘Third World’ area of St. Martin’s is receiving. Love News visited the area situated at the corners of Vernon and Oleander Streets this morning where we saw a group of young musicians hard at work detailing the lines on the court. ‘Bundy’ Herrera is spearheading the renovation.

“DMA Promotions is promoting a show out here on the 16th. What we are doing is trying to uplift this basketball court so we are not going to wait until the show is over, we have the paint already which was provided by Habet and Habet and all the artists from ENG Records and a couple more artists came out to give assistance in painting the court. A couple of the guys from the neighborhood also came over to help.”
Herrera says this weekend promises several sporting activities as well as an open-air concert featuring Belizean talents.

“The sixteenth is a show called “Nothing but Love; Third World”. We are going to have a football marathon, an open basketball marathon and performance from the artists from 6pm to 12 midnight. There will be a wide variety of artist; from Burne all the way down to artist people have never heard of. We are going to have the Determined to Hustle Band (DTH), artist from ENG Record, about 13 or 15 artists, artist from DMA Promotions, Dan Man, Anaconda as well as MR. Program. We are going to have full day of entertainment. It is not a clash, it is a concert.”
Over the next few months the artists will be touring different communities in Belize City and refurbishing the facilities they’ll be performing in.

“We want to do one show and month and we want to go into every neighborhood in the City. We don not only want to do shows for profit we also want to give back. We are going to feature and artist from every neighborhood we visit and we will refurbish the court for the community.”
Featured artist from St. Martin’s Area who is scheduled to perform on Saturday is Cash Money.
