MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCES TO ANDY PALACIO'S FAMILY CONTINUE TO POUR IN

January 22, 2008

The messages of condolences on the death of Belize’s cultural ambassador, Andy Palacio continue to pour in. The University of the West Indies School of Continuing Studies has expressed its deepest sympathy to the family, friends and the people of Belize on Palacio’s passing. The release says Palacio’s passing will leave a void in the cultural landscape of Belize and the Caribbean but we are happy to have had the benefit of the genius of his contribution to putting the music and culture of Belize on the world stage. His music will live on as a tribute to his commitment to the strengthening and recognition of the Garifuna culture and of Belize in the international arena. The Belizean students of the University of the West Indies at the Mona Campus held a memorial service in honour of the life of Andy Palacio at Irvine Hall on the campus in Jamaica last Sunday.  In related news, yesterday leader of the People’s national Party and the National Belizean Alliance, Wil Maheia visited Palacio’s family in Barranco Village.
