New born baby boy shot

A four month old baby boy remains in a stable condition at the KHMH after he sustained injuries from a pellet gun. Good news is that doctors expect the child to recover. He was accidentally shot by his father on Saturday at their home in Gales Point Village. The child sustained injuries to the lower back. Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino reported how the incident played out.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, CIB, Belize City: “The mother of the child Tyreka Welch, an 18 year old resident of Gale’s Point reported to police that sometime that day the father of the child Lincoln Duhaney a 19 year old of the same village picked up a pellet gun and pointed it at the child not realizing that the weapon was loaded and not on safe pulled the trigger and inflicted the injury on the child. The baby is at the hospital at the KHMH in a stable condition and is expected to recover. The matter is being investigated, depending on the certification of the medico form then that would be the charges that would be levied on the father.”

The file is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.
