Yesterday, we told you about 69-year-old, Ofelia Cruz who was bludgeoned to death inside her own home on the Salt Creek Road in an isolated part of Sand Hill Village, Belize District. Our newsroom understood that two men arrived on a motorcycle, went through the fence, and into the house while Cruz’s husband was away running errands. Today, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, told us that the men were not from the area but had reportedly been seen by other neighbours.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Joseph Myvett: “Tuesday last shortly before 5pm Ladyville police were called to an area on Salt Creek Road in the vicinity of Sandhill Village where upon arrival at the home of one Ofelia Hernandez Cruz, she was found motionless on her floor with apparent injuries. What the police know so far is that sometime prior to them being called screams were heard coming from her home. Police so far have detained several persons and are seeking two other people whom we believe can assist in this investigation at this time. There is some information that a shotgun was stolen but we would have to verify that.”

So far police have not ascertained a motive but there are reports that Cruz’s husband’s licensed shotgun was stolen.
