PLB football match causing controversy

1 min read

A decision by a referee during a football match for the Premier League of Belize Championship finals is causing much controversy in the football arena. Belize Defence Force Football Club has protested the decision by Referee Christopher Reid to determine a penalty goal by a BDF player against Verdes FC as illegal. BDF FC protested the decision to the Premier League of Belize and while it was agreed that the referee erred, his decision was final. It was expected that the match between Verdes FC and the Belmopan Bandits Football Club would have been placed on hold, due to the protest but as FFB General Secretary Earl Jones explained, the match was still played. Jones spoke on the issue.

In a release, the FFB confirmed that Referee Christopher Reid and Assistant Referee Wendell Esquiliano erred in a crucial quarterfinals match and are on suspension. They cannot officiate any PLB matches and all other tournaments until further notice.
