Belize City Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack on 21 year old Dean Nembhard who was shot on the afternoon of March tenth. As we reported before, Nembhard, a resident of Belize City was walking in the area of Cet Site shortly after four o’clock when a man fired at him. Today Inspector of Police Wilfred Ferrufino said investigators have detained one person pending further investigation, but would not say whether the attack was gang related.

Inspector Wilfred Ferrufino, Belize Police Department: “He heard several shots and as result he realized that he was shot. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and Police investigation has revealed so far that he was walking on the street and an unknown gunman opened fire and caused two wounds, two gunshot wounds to his abdominal area. One person was detained for that and he is being questioned, the investigation is ongoing.”

Reporter: Sir the initial information reaching us suggested that it may be motivated by rivalries in the neighborhood. I went to say if like I said if similar information is getting to the investigators?

Inspector Wilfred Ferrufino, Belize Police Department:“I don’t have that information if it is gang related so I cannot comment on that.”
