A Belize City man from Causarina Street is lucky to be alive as a gunman entered his yard and then fired at him through a screen door. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo says that his injuries are from the ricochet from the wall.
ASP Alejandro Cowo: “Last night sometime after 8:30 Police visited #14 Casuarina St. where they spoke to one Raheim Gordon 22 years Belizean Construction worker of that same address. He mentioned to Police that he was sitting inside on his sofa, inside of the house when he heard what appeared to be a gunshot. He later on felt something passing by him, then heard a knock on the wall of the house, thereafter he felt a burning sensation to the right side of his neck. He didn’t realize that he was bleeding.”
ASP Cowo also provided an update on the murder of Felina James, the mother of two who went missing last week and was in the process of moving from Sarteneja to Belize City. Unfortunately, no one has been charged for her murder.
ASP Alejandro Cowo: “ Reference Felina James, well the body was located on Thursday and on Friday the Post Mortem was conducted. The cause of death was because of a large cut wound to the back of the neck. So far Police have interviewed several persons however we cannot ascertain who was the person and the motive as to why this happened to Felina James. She was seen in Sarteneja Village sometime either Thursday or Friday. I know the investigators were there on Saturday morning speaking to various persons while various statements were recorded where several have mentioned that they saw here there when the vehicle had broken down when they were coming to Belize City sometime at night but that was the last time she was seen.
Her kia Sorrento and firearm are missing. Her brother and other people were questioned for 2 days at the police station. Currently no one is detained. While police are still trying to find clues into James’ murder. Another woman has gone missing, but the Officer in Charge of CIB for Belize City indicated it is possible that Ruby Petino may have gone back to Guatemala.
ASP Alejandro Cowo: “Reference the missing person Ms. Petillo a 53 year old Belizean of #128 East Collet Canal. She reported that on Tuesday the 16th of October the female named Nairobi Petino along with her 1 year 8 months baby left from their house enroute to eight miles to a place where they normally works. Since then she hasn’t heard from Ms. Petino. I know that Police visited the eight miles where she went to work. There was no sighting of her and they also made checks in the other areas where she could have possibly been but nobody has seen her. She is a person of clear complexion, about 5 feet 8 inches in height, has long wavy hair and the color of clothing that she had left cannot be ascertained at this time. We have also checked at the western border to see if she had departed the country but no. We remember that there is illegal crossings there so we do not know if she was actually legal in the country or not but that is something that we are following up.”
The police say they will check to see if Petino and her child were in the country legally.
