Joint operations between Immigration and Police personnel in the west on Tuesday led to the detention of seventy-five persons. The operations were focused in the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena and surrounding areas. According to police, 75 persons were detained but after they were interviewed by immigration personnel, only sixteen of them remained in police custody. Love News understands that in one of the operations 21 undocumented Hondurans were intercepted in a white van on the George Price Highway. The van was driven at the time by a 33-year-old man from Ladyville. We are told that none of the individuals could produce any documents and were therefore taken to the San Ignacio Police Station. Police say the matter is being handled by the Immigration Department.
