A double homicide occurred in Orange Walk Town on Sunday evening. At the end of a football event for teens, a group of men walked outside the Louisiana Government School stadium and a masked man pulled up in a white vehicle and fired at least a dozen shots which killed 34-year-old Junior Triminio and 19-year-old Christopher Enrique Calderon.  Triminio, the target of the assassination, was reputed to be the leader of a gang which made an income from the drug trade. Just a few yards away inside the stadium, Minister of Police and Area Representative for Orange Walk East, Elodio Aragon was moments before celebrating with the teens who participated in the tournament. It is particularly upsetting to him that the vicious murders occurred virtually in his back yard. He says the police and the community need to do more to bring the violence to an end.

Minister of Police and Area Representative for Orange Walk East, Elodio Aragon: We have to do more positive things to keep our young people away from crime, away from criminal activity and I think each one of us have that responsibility as parents, guardians, community personal. Whether you are a member of the church, a priest, everybody, educators. Everybody has a responsibility to do our best to keep our young people from such things. They are known by the Police Department just like in any of our communities across this country. People are known to the Police because the Police knows they are involved. It is about tying things up together to get them off the streets and sometimes it isn’t so easy. You have a court system that gives people bail. You all know the situation and these are the things the Police must contend with but definitely these things are of concern to us.  We as a Police Department are concerned. I as the area representative in that area is concerned because you know this is the last thing you would have expected on a more splendid day. The sun was shining, the kids were having fun, the parents were out there supporting their kids. You couldn’t have asked for a better day. For us to have ended in such bloodshed out there and it is so sad for our community. Like I said this concerns me because that is my area and I feel for it especially because that was about two stone throw from my house and it concerns me as much as it has affected our community and defiantly I have asked the Police Department to really look into this thing. I know that there is a lot of work that has to be done but the Police Department has been tasked to continue to work on these things. The Police Department is not a Department that is inept. It is a Department that has its intelligence arm, it has its investigative arm, it has it’s forensic arm. It is a Department that is well connected in terms of doing the Police work. Now we could stay here all day talking about this and that. The reality is vivid in terms of what transpired yesterday. The challenge now is for the Police Department to act upon these things and deal with it and I will tell you there is a lot of information out there. The police has a lot of information but these things cannot be revealed to the public. They have to be implied and worked upon but definitely this is something that as far as I am concerned a real tragedy for our community.
