The much anticipated Municipal Elections will take place tomorrow countrywide. Nine municipalities are up for grabs with a total of sixty-seven municipal seats. The political parties have been preparing for these elections for some time now. The police department will be out in full force to ensure that the elections take place without a hitch. Assistant Commissioner of Police spoke with the media about their preparations.
ACP Edward Broaster – Operations Commander
“The Police has the members of the police department from the different detachment in full force in all cities and towns for the Municipal Elections. Already we are having problems with different political parties with signs and banners that we are addressing as we speak. We have the numbers to police the elections and we hope that we will have a peaceful election as having been the tradition in Belize.”
Broaster said that there will be police presence at all the polling stations countrywide. The Belize Police Department reminds the public that the sale of alcohol beverages on Election Day is prohibited by law. In this regard, the police are asking the assistance of the public in complying with the provisions of these laws. This is to ensure that our election procedure is one that is peaceful without any obstruction.
