Tomorrow supporters of the political parties will take to the streets in numbers as the candidates who will contest the post of Mayor and Councilors in the nine municipalities across the country will go to be nominated. Brendalyn Staine, Registering Officer at the Election & Boundaries Department said they have made the necessary preparations.

“Preparing for tomorrows nomination which will be held countrywide. All parties had agreed on a certain time for nominations and so from 10-12 it’s the People’s United Party and from 12-2 it’s the People Independent and Progressive Party and from 2-4 the United Democratic Party. What will take place this will be happening countrywide, all our different nominations station. The returning officer will be the one in charge and be accepting those people that will be nominated.”
Nominations will be between ten o’clock tomorrow morning and four o’clock in the evening. Those interested in running for town council will need to pay a fee of twenty-five dollars while others wishing to run for city council, Belmopan or Belize, will need to pay a fee of fifty dollars. This payment is made to the Treasury Department. Following tomorrow’s nomination exercise, the official ballots will be printed ahead of the March 7 elections.
