Twenty-eight year old Anna Garbutt, an unemployed of Mahogany Street in Belize City who allegedly attempted to smuggle five grams of cannabis in a foam plate with food inside the Belize Central Prison was charged with drug trafficking when she appeared today before Magistrate La Donna John. Garbutt pled not guilty to the charge. She was released on a bail of six thousand dollars with 2 sureties of three thousand dollars each. Her next court date is October 7. The police reported that at around one thirty on Thursday they were called to prison where Garbutt was handed over to them along with a foam plate that contained food in 3 sections and a transparent plastic bag containing cannabis that was tucked between 2 foam plates stick together. As a result, Garbutt was arrested and charged. Garbutt said she had gone to prison to visit her brother-in-law.
