PUC decide to up the rates for BEL by five-point five percent

1 min read

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) handed down its final decision regarding the tariff review for the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL).  The Belize Electricity Limited had requested an increase in rates which would have seen consumers billed almost forty-one point five cents per kilowatt hour; an increase from thirty-nine point three cents per kilowatt hour.  In its final analysis and after taking into account the objections received on the increase, including that from the Government of Belize, the PUC decided to up the rates by five-point five percent as opposed to six-point nine percent which was the initial decision.  Consumers will now pay forty-one point three-eight cents per kilowatt hour for the period, January 1 – June 30, 2019.
