Tomorrow the People’s United Party will convene a national executive meeting to discuss issues of national concerns. When we spoke to PUP Chairman, Henry Charles Usher on Sunday, he told us that the Executive will discuss matters such as the re-registration exercise and Arthur Saldivar’s application to run for the PUP in Belmopan.

Henry Charles Usher, PUP Chairman: “Well there are a number of issues that we want to go over including the re registration exercise that is scheduled to begin on July 1st or 2nd since the 1st is Sunday. We also have other issues we want to go over, we want to go over the conventions, you mentioned to me earlier about this issue of sugar and Santander so I’m sure that will be on the agenda as well.”

Reporter: What is your take on Mr.Prime Minister’s- cabinet’s decision okay that on April 10 of next year some area representatives, cabinet ministers will be trying to influence their constituents to vote what they think. Is that an issue?

Henry Charles Usher, PUP Chairman:“I think it’s important that the people of Belize are given an opportunity to hear the pros and cons of this issue. There must be an education campaign carried out by the Government to make sure that the people understand the facts, understand the issues and understand what it means to either go to the ICJ or not go to the ICJ. In our party we will be carrying out the same education campaign, giving the pros and cons of the same issue and then coming to a party’s position before the April 10 referendum.”

Reporter: Do you know whether or not Mr.Arthur Saldivar’s application to run in Belmopan has been reviewed by the committee and accepted?

Henry Charles Usher, PUP Chairman: “We are going to discuss that on Tuesday at the national level and I can give you an answer.”

Reporter: How many people applied for that I heard four or five.

Henry Charles Usher, PUP Chairman: “I’ll give you an answer on that on Tuesday.”

We will get the PUP’s decision on Arthur Saldivar tomorrow.
