Robbery leads to car chase; suspects escape

A robbery in Belmopan led to a vehicle chase and shootout between Police and the perpetrators on Saturday. Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, Joseph Myvett briefed the media on the incident.

ACP Joseph Myvette: “On Saturday shortly after 9:50 pm Police responded to a robbery on Nim Li Punit St. in Belmopan. Upon their arrival a white in color Ford Escape was seen leaving the area which was pursued by the Police and the occupants fired upon the Police and the police returned fire and a chase continued to ensue. The Police later found the vehicle abandoned in an offroad in Cotton Tree Village. The vehicle has since been impounded and the Police investigation into this matter continues. There were jewelries and cash; an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen along with jewelries from the proprietor of the restaurant that was robbed.”

Police say the vehicle did not have a license plate on at the time of the incident.
