Rough Sea Conditions may have been the cause of drowning

1 min read

Earlier in the week, 41-year-old Rudy Morales, a bus company owner and several relatives went on a fishing trip that ended tragically when the boat capsized at the mouth of the New River near the entrance to the Corozal Bay. The police said that there was a small craft warning and the weather may have played a role in his drowning.

ACP Joseph Myvett: “Police received reports some time after 9 PM that Mr. Rudy Morales along with four other companions had left Corozal on a fishing trip and sometime around 5 pm whilst coming back they experienced some problems where the vessel began taking in water. As a result four other persons managed to make it to safety while Mr. Morales submerged beneath the water and did not resurface. Extensive searches by family members, Police and the Coast guard resulted in the retrieval of his body on Tuesday shortly before 5 PM in the area of Serus Lagoon. A post mortem has since been conducted on the body which revealed that the findings are consistent with drowning.”
