Scotia Bank hands scholarships to Belize City students

Scotia Bank handed out scholarships to school children as it celebrates its 12th anniversary of its Scotia Bank Education Foundation. The children attended a short ceremony late this afternoon at the Scotia Bank Belama Branch. Malenie Landaverde, the Manager of the branch spoke more about the program.

Melenie Landaverde, Manager Scotiabank Belama Branch: This year in collaboration with our 50th anniversary for Scotiabank in Belize we are providing double the scholarships. We are giving out twenty scholarships this afternoon to kids in the community and we Mr. Howell Gillet assisting us with identifying those students in the area. The scholarships total about thirty; countrywide have provided one hundred eighty six scholarships totaling thirty seven thousand dollars. Here at the Belama Branch we are giving out twenty scholarships this afternoon. The staff also contributed towards preparing school bags and providing all the stationeries in those school bags for the students and also giving them a little treat this afternoon. Scotiabank is committed to the youths of Belize. It’s very important that we contribute towards their education, it is the cornerstone of our corporate social responsibility here at the bank as well so we take the time, the staff take the time to prepare these packages for the students to spend time with them and also focusing on their education as well.

Commander of the Region One Division in Belize City, Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett, accompanied the children on this occasion.
