Senate Special Select Committee meets

The Senate Special Select Committee met last week in an effort to begin compiling its report on the Senate hearings that lasted more than a year. The Committee first met on October 12, 2016, and its last hearing session was on December 6, 2017. The Committee was tasked to investigate the findings of the Auditor General’s Special Visa and other findings Report on the Immigration and Nationality Department for the period 2011-2013. Through the hearings, the Committee interviewed witnesses and several scandalous revelations were made. The Committee is now tasked to compile a report to be tabled before the Senate. It is understood that the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Aldo Salazar, will compile his report and thereafter the other members will make recommendations. A definitive timeline as to when the report will be completed has not been established.
