As the September celebrations are fast approaching, this weekend marks the first within the list of schedule activities planned for Belizeans as we celebrate our country at such a festive time of the year. This year the annual song competition will be held at the Santa Elena Sports Complex, where all the competitors will be vying to be recognized with best Belizean or Carnival song for the year. Love News spoke to NICH’s Communications Director Neil Hall as he explains more.

Neil Hall Communication Officer, Nich:  The National Song Competition is about getting our musicians, our songwriters and our performers together on a stage where they can be heralded and celebrated for the year. Every year we do this and we call out for a Belizean song and a Carnival song. We do it in Sr. and Jr. categories and we actually give a prize of $10,000 to the seniors for the first place which is inclusive of a music video and a trophy and of course the title of Belizean Carnival song of the year as well for the Juniors we have prize of $3500 and a trophy for first place. Aside from the $10,000 cash the winner in the Sr. category also gets an opportunity to go abroad and perform. We do have two other categories. It’s not only the winning song and the runner up but we have the Breakout Artist of the Year which is decided at the event itself based on their performance as well as the People’s Choice. The People’s Choice is actually awarded by the people. On the website you will have the photo of the artist, you will have the name of the song and a caption of the song for you to play and besides that you will have a little button that says I Like; underneath it is Vote. We are asking everybody with a smartphone, a laptop or a computer or if you want to do it on your TV if you have a smart TV, anything that has to do with your access that you can use to vote. Please go ahead and vote for you favourite song or your favourite artist.

Hall encourages everyone to come out and support the event tomorrow which starts at eight p.m., as well as to vote for the various artists.
