An estimated 140 murder investigations were launched by the Belize Police Department so far this year. There are two more days until the year ends and for the long weekend, police are not taking any chances. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noel Leal, says that the department will deploy an increased number of officers to keep the public safe.
Noel Leal – Deputy Commissioner of Police
“We are very concern and we would wish that no more will continue towards the ending of the year but that is why we are putting out all of our Police resources and all of our efforts both day and night countrywide to try to prevent another one and we will do everything that is possible to prevent another murder occurring. But as I said earlier at the beginning of this press brief is that we want the citizenry to cooperate with us but at the same time be cognoscente of your environment and try to take care of yourselves as well and if you feel you will be getting into any problem with anybody call the Police and let us assist you or let us advise you and we will do whatever we need to do to prevent any mishap whether it be a homicide or any death or any traffic accident.”
2016 saw a total of 138 murders countrywide however that number has increased for this year.
