KETTLE APPEAL 2.00_00_19_04.Still001

Scotiabank Belize is the first to donate to the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettle Appeal for this year.  The bank gave two thousand dollars during the launch this morning.

Scotiabank Belize is the first to donate to the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettle Appeal for this year.  The bank gave two thousand dollars during the launch this morning.  The Salvation Army is hoping to raise as much as one hundred thousand dollars during the Christmas season.   According to Scotiabank’s Belize City Branch Manager, Erwin Arthurs, this is the fourth year that they are partnering with the Salvation Army as a way of giving back to the community.

Erwin Arthurs, Manager, Scotiabank, Belize City

Erwin Arthurs, Manager, Scotiabank, Belize City: “This is the fourth year we have partnered with the Salvation Army particularly because we know that they will reach the people that we really want to reach. It’s starting to become a tradition for us, we see this as a good way to give back so they have always asked us to support and we always are willing to facilitate them. It’s very important because indirectly this donation will reach people that actually are our customers and in extension their family members and people that they might really wanted to give to and indirectly its us giving on behalf of them as well.”

Last year the Salvation Army was short of $6,000 to meet their donation goal and they hope this year they can achieve it. According to Major Jonathan Kellman, District Commander, the kettle appeal is a great way to touch the lives of many people.

Major Jonathan Kellman, District Commander, The Salvation Army

Major Jonathan Kellman, District Commander, The Salvation Army: “We are excited to launch the kettle this year as you could probably hear from me earlier. It’s actually a great opportunity to touch the lives of many people and because we look after so many children and adults during the year this is just another opportunity that we can really get closer and the hearts of people are tender at this time of the year and so all through the world at this time of the year Salvation Army is reaching out, not only receiving but giving at the same time in a tremendous way. The target for this year is $100,000, it will be in two ways, from the kettle appeal and the mail appeal. The letters go out simultaneously with the kettle appeal so people will soon start to see the letters in their mailbox and this year we actually added our bank account number because some people may just want to do it online. So we’re going to start from today and we’re going to creep up to December 24th but before that we have certain targets in place because we have the children’s dinner for 700 children at Holy Redeemer on the 6th of December so we actually want to give a great drive from now so that we can get the toys in and so that we can get the funds to buy the food stuff for that occasion.”

Erwin Arthurs noted that the money donated by Scotiabank is from the company and the employees will give their separate donations.
