Statistical Institute of Belize closes four of its offices

3 min read

Apart from its headquarters in Belmopan, Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB)  had branch offices in Corozal Town, Orange Walk Town, Belize City and Punta Gorda. However, that is no longer the case since this past Monday SIB closed those offices as part of its restructuring exercise. Love News spoke with Diana Castillo-Trejo, Deputy Director General, at SIB.

Diana Castillo-Trejo – Deputy Director General

“We had only four offices left in those municipalities mentioned in the release and those were manned by one person each. The persons who were stationed at those offices have been transferred to Belmopan so they’ can be deployed within headquarters.”

“Why did it become necessary to close the offices?”

Diana Castillo-Trejo – Deputy Director General

“It’s just a part of our internal restructuring modernization and efficiency improvement efforts. The work that we do has been evolving, the way that we do the work has been evolving over the past ten years that we have been in existence and so this is just a natural transition from that. A lot more of our work or work that was done out in the district offices previously for surveys, for example, can now or has now been centralized here at headquarters so we gave centralized our public relations now we have a department that is dedicated to that. We centralize in recruitment function, that’s the function of human resources, functions such as procuring supplies and things like that so a lot of what used to take place in the districts no longer takes place there so the need now that we have is to build on the staff here at headquarters.”

Castillo-Trejo said that the closure is not expected to affect the performance of the SIB, but will allow them to perform more efficiently.
