Police have formally arrested and charged Shamir O’Neal Myvett with causing death by careless conduct. The charge follows the death of Myvett’s step daughter, six year old Daisy Emily Acevedo. The child was found in their home sometime after seven o’clock on Monday morning. She had sustained a gunshot wound to her neck and her right index and middle fingers were partially amputated. The child died shortly before eight o’clock that morning while at the San Pedro Polyclinic. Police said they recovered one expended shell from the scene of the incident. They also confirmed that the weapon used is licensed to the child’s stepfather, thirty-year-old Shamir O’Neal Myvett. He told police that the weapon was properly stored. Meanwhile police say they are still investigating how the weapon was retrieved and how the child was fatally injured. Myvett was detained since Monday and is reported to have been inside the house at the time of the shooting along with the child’s other siblings. Police say they understand that the children’s mother was out at the time.
