The argument between Leader of the Opposition, John Briceno, and Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber continued over a Facebook invitation. When the Minister hosted an open day at the Civic in Belize City, Faber who is the Minister of Sports invited Briceno and others of his party via a Facebook post to attend the launch. Briceno called Faber disrespectful.

PATRICK FABER, MINISTER OF SPORTS

“My friend the Leader of the Opposition kept on saying forty million dollars for the Civic Center. I invited him when we had an open day you know he didn’t come.”

JOHN BRICENO, LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

“You lie!”

PATRICK FABER, MINISTER OF SPORTS

“I sent you a public invitation on Facebook along with Cordel Hyde and along with Kareem Musa. Thank god Facebook has records go back and check but I will assume that you are not up to date with technology that’s why you are fighting this loan to BTL right now. You’re backward at Smart; you’re not so smart at Smart; you are Mr. Smart go on Facebook. I extended the invitation to all of you because you are talking nonsense. They are criticizing these developments Madam Speaker, but the people who they are criticizing produce good quality work for this county.”

JOHN BRICENO, LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

“I just want to put on record that I find this Deputy Prime Minister to be disrespectful to say that he sent an invitation to us through Facebook. That’s being very disrespectful and that is something we will not accept and tolerate from this Deputy Prime Minister. If he wanted us there then he can send us an invitation personally to us. Obviously, he is grandstanding and playing politics with this matter Madam Speaker.”

PATRICK FABER, MINISTER OF SPORTS

“Madam Speaker, I have often heard my friend, the Leader of the Opposition, and his great old party condemn me and condemn my boss, the Prime Minister, for being arrogant but my goodness that just took the cake. ‘I am the Leader of the Opposition I must get a personal invitation’, when I am on the TV, I am on the radio inviting the world and country. You should be lucky you got a personal Facebook invitation.”

The next Sitting of the House of Representatives is expected to happen in February.
