The National Agricultural Trade Show is taking place this weekend at the showgrounds in the capital. Thousands of Belizeans from across the country are expected to converge in Belmopan where they are sure to find top up, phone deals as well as a variety of food and drink. Maneuvering the traffic on the highway and in the immediate area is only one hurdle that needs to be executed well. The Belize police department also has to keep the peace. Assistant Commissioner of Police Marco Vidal, Commander of Operations says the department has a strategy it will employ to keep the grounds peaceful for families and friends.
Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal Assistant Commissioner of Operations: “The security that will be in place is one that is not unusual in terms of our officers deployed on the ground but aside from officers on the ground we will also have the technology to assist them. We will also have regular checkpoints along the road because of the fact that when people leave the area or when they are coming to the area they might be speeding or they might consuming alcoholic beverages so we have that in place. The same operation continues and that will be incorporated right into the National Agriculture and Trade Show activity but in terms of the security within the grounds again we will have our increased numbers. We know the areas that are vulnerable, as a matter of fact the Commissioner and I just came in from the grounds to revisit and see what other areas we needed to cover but certainly we will be with a big force out there and also on high alert but we will be bringing in the specialized units to assist in the security on the grounds.”
The Agricultural Show takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the entrance to Belmopan.
