Belize Electricity Limited says an additional three hundred households will now have access to electricity. These households are located in the villages of Selena, Santa Teresita, Los Tambos and San Marcos in the Cayo District. Today, BEL provided energized power lines to make this possible. However, the energized power lines do not grant them automatic access to electricity as residents will now need to acquire the necessary Public Utilities Commission Electrical Installation Certificate after which they must apply to BEL for service.  According to BEL, they are diligently working to complete installation of power lines to all remaining sections of the villages by the end of March 2018. BEL says they have been able to connect over 100 communities countrywide and promises that by 2020, 98% of all Belizean households will have access to safe, dependable and inexpensive electricity.
