Today, the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) launched the project preparation phase of a multi-sectoral project at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. Love News was there and spoke with Diane Wade-Moore, Programme Analysis at UNDP, who said the project addresses bio-diversity management, sustainable land management, integrated water resource management and forest management within the Belize River Watershed. Wade-Moore shared how such a project will be beneficial to the country.
The University of Belize is currently in the final stage of a project to develop a management plan for the Belize River Watershed. Wade-Moore said that their project will be able to build on UB’s project.
Love News also spoke with Santiago Carrizosa, UNDP Senior Technical Advisor, who will be monitoring the project to ensure that it meets with the guidelines of the Global Environmental Facility, which will be funding the project. Carrizosa shared how the project will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Rudolph Williams, a Member of the Water Stakeholders Group in Belize, said the project will assist with the management of the water resources.
The Global Environmental Facility will be financing the project to a tune of ten point two million dollars. The project is expected to be implemented in January 2019.
