The Executive members of the Public Service Union and the National Trade Union Congress of Belize met with a visiting team from the Organization of American States.  The meeting was a part of the Follow-Up Mechanism for the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention Against Corruption.  The unions made a joint presentation on suggestions made to the Government in 2008 by the OAS. These recommendations included government hiring and filling of vacancies in the Public Service; training, remuneration, and probity of Public Officers, Open Vote, and Contract Workers. The unions expressed their disappointment that Government has not adhered to the recommendations. Other matters discussed were the proposals put forward for the Strengthening of the Public Service and the Judicial and Legal Services Commissions and changes that were recommended for the National Assembly Staff Committee.
