Mexico has made a few improvements with its Regional Visitor Card which has been issued to nationals from Belize and Guatemala. The card will also be now made available to Salvadorans and Hondurans at the Mexican Immigration offices located at seven border points of entry with Guatemala. According to Edgardo Briones Velasquez, the head of the Consular Section at the Embassy of Mexico in Belize, the Regional Visitor Card will be valid to travel up to 7 consecutive days to the Mexican states of Campeche, Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Tabasco and will now include visits to Yucatán.
Edgardo Briones Velasquez – Head Consular Section, Embassy of Mexico: “There is a regional visitor’s card that has been in place for several years now. Belizeans are acquainted with it, people from Guatemala and Belize apply for them at the points of entry. It is not issued at the Mexican Councilors section but Mexican authorities, nothing has changed in regards to that. The importance is that the legal residence from Honduras and El Salvador both in Guatemala and in Belize can also now apply for the regional visitor’s card. Its intention is to facilitate people crossing into Mexico mainly from Guatemala and Belize but now also from Honduras and El Salvador. They can now still enter through those seven border cities and I will give you the list in a second and go as far as Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and Chiapas. Those will be the states that you would be able to travel to with this regional visitor card. They still have to go immigration authorities on the Mexican side. The paperwork is the same, for those people from Honduras and El Salvador they have to prove that they are legal residents and permanent residents in Belize or Guatemala. In this case we are talking about Belize so they would require a valid document for travel, a passport and for those not Belizean nationals as I said proof of permanent residence in Belize.”
Yucatan is now included as a destination along with the regional card, which is free of charge. But three photos must be submitted along with the required documents.
