Two separate traffic incidents claimed the lives of two men over the weekend. The first was recorded on Saturday in the Orange Walk District. Police say it happened between miles 51 and 52 on Philip Goldson Highway. When officers arrived on scene around 7:30 that night, they found 62-year-old, Ezekiel Leon, on the road with severe head injuries. A short distance away, police also found a badly damaged bicycle. Police say they also found a second person who was involved in the incident not too far from the scene. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch identified him as the driver of the vehicle believed to have hit Leon.
Joseph Myvett – Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “A distance away Police also intercepted a black SUV at the time being driven by one Shawn Dorch. Dorch reported that whilst traveling south just outside of Orange Walk Town he observed a cyclist on the side of the road who swerved into the middle of the highway and as result that person was knocked down. His name was learned to be Ezekiel Lopez Leon 62 years Guatemala National of the Eldridgeville Village in the Orange Walk District. Dorch was detained pending the investigation and thereafter he was served with a notice of intended prosecution.”
ACP Myvett says the file on the case will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution.
