29-year-old Mayra Alcoser was killed in a tragic car accident that will go down as one of the worst Belize has ever seen. Alcoser was one of seven victims who died. She worked at Scotia Bank Belmopan branch and was well-liked by her colleagues. The branch held a candlelight vigil in her memory yesterday. Cayo Correspondent Pauline Soberanis Tillett gave us more details.
Last night Scotia Bank Belmopan branch held a candlelight vigil for one of their own, Mayra Alexandria Alcoser who was among the casualties of last Wednesday’s devastating traffic accident on the George Price Highway. It was a somber evening as families, friends and coworkers reflected on the way she touched their lives. Love News spoke with Carlos Silva, manager who told us about her professionalism on the job. .
Carlos Silva, ScotiaBank Belmopan Branch Manager: “In my experience working with her as well I think she demonstrated that as well but over the years I think we just go to understand her. I know she meant good so it was always good mutual understanding. I think for that reason she continues to be promoted. I know she really had places to go, it’s really unfortunate. She will surely be missed my staff.”
We also spoke to Roxanne Anderson, her cousin.
Roxanne Anderson, Cousin: “Mayra I can say she loved her nephew, her one and only nephew and like in Spanish we would say “es el consentido de Mayra”. But I know that Mayra is in heaven and she is praying for all of us because I know she is rejoicing right now but she is just praying for us so that we can cope not having her here.”
