Will Social Security contribution reform still take place?

In 2017, the Social Security Board started public consultations countrywide to discuss the possibility of increasing employee’s contribution and benefits to the scheme.  The last time employees saw an increase in their contributions was in 2001. Love News spoke with Chandra Nisbet-Cansino, General Manager/Corporate Customer Relation Services, who gave us an update on the initiative.

Chandra Nisbet-Cansino, General Manager/Corporate Customer Relation Services:“We have had discussions with our stakeholders we have had with just about all of the representative groups of employer and employees that make up basically the stakeholders of Social Security. We have put forward proposals for the increase in the contribution which will also be a resulting increase in the benefits. Presently it’s still in the discussion phase with primarily the unions and the business community and so as soon as we have further or an agreement or a consensus on the way forward then we will put in the proposal to the cabinet and then moving forward from there.”
