The Youth Innovation Challenge began yesterday at the ITVET Compound in Belize City.  The YIC is an annual competition opened to secondary school students with a set theme for them to present solutions for.  Chief Education Officer, Dr Carol Babb spoke of this year’s theme and the expansion of the competition.

Jeff Senne is from Price Waterhouse Coopers, one of the agencies that has been teaming up with the Ministry of Education for ten years now.  This is Jeff’s seventh year working in Belize with the YIC. He spoke to Love News on what the judges will be looking for in the final presentations slated for Thursday.

Dr Babb says that with each passing year, the topics varied.  The solutions presented by the students are forwarded to the relevant authorities for consideration and possible incorporation into the official responses.

The challenge takes place via collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Peacework and Price Waterhouse Coopers.  The final presentations will be done tomorrow at ITVET.  The YIC is limited to schools in the Belize District.
