An eleven-year-old girl was shot on Arlington Drive in Belize City at around eight o’clock last night. Police believe the intended target may have been a seventeen-year-old boy who was in the vicinity at the time. By the time officers arrived at the scene, the child had already been taken to the hospital for treatment. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith briefed the media on the investigation.

ASP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department: “What we have learned so far in the course of the ongoing investigation is that the female minor along with four other persons were socializing at a property on Arlington Drive when a male person approached and fired several shots in the direction of the group resulting in the injury of the female minor. Two persons have since been detained and police have retrieved several video footage which have assisted in the ongoing investigation. The female minor has been treated and released from the hospital. Two theories are being explored however it is too early to give a conclusive position on it. We suspect one person to have been the intended target, tied to the two theories that are being explored but as I stated we are not in a position to disclose that at this moment.”
The eleven-year-old girl has since been released from the hospital.
