12-Year-Old Among Victims in Belize City Daytime Shooting

Police have detained several people following a brazen shooting incident on Sunday afternoon in Belize City, which left three individuals injured, including a 12-year-old student. The incident happened around 12:50 pm on Iguana Street Extension.  Acting on reports of shots fired, officers from the Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB), arrived on the scene and found that the three victims had already been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for medical attention.  Those injured were identified as 36-year-old Edgar Choc; 12-year-old Emil Audinette – a student of Ordonez Avenue, and 56-year-old Marilyn Richard. Officer Commanding Police Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, said that the incident is believed to be retaliatory violence for a previous shooting.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “On Sunday the 6th of April, 2025, around 12:50 PM, police responded to a  shooting on an Iguana Street in Belize City. Upon arrival, they learned three person had been shot and taken to the KHMH for treatment.  Edgar Chuc and Marilyn Richard received gunshot injuries as well as a 12 year old minor. They are presently at the KHMH receiving treatment and they are all in stable condition. Investigation revealed that they were sitting in a yard on Iguana Street when  a motorcycle came to the area. A person came off the motorcycle and fired several shots towards their direction.  We have several persons in custody at this time. Information revealed that a person that was at the yard was the intended target but he was not shot. We have some information that it may be related so we are doing follow-up work on it. Yes it is of concern so we will do several operations and bring in the persons from those areas to try  to prevent any further retaliation. Again we have some information it may be retaliation for that previous shooting that happened last week.”
