For the year 2017, Belize will have thirteen public and bank holidays with the first half of the year having seven days off inclusive of the Easter holidays. Monday, January 2 will be given as a holiday in celebration of New Year’s Day; Monday, March 6 will be a holiday in recognition of National Heroes and Benefactors Day in lieu of March 9. For the Easter weekend, Good Friday will be on Friday, April 14 followed by Holy Saturday on April 15 and Easter Monday on April 17. Labour Day will be a holiday on Monday, May 1; also in the month of May, Monday, the twenty second will be a holiday in lieu of Commonwealth Day or Sovereign’s Day on May 24. Saint George’s Caye Day will fall on a Sunday and a holiday will be given on Monday, September 11; Independence Day will fall on a Thursday and that will be a public and bank holiday. In October, Monday, the ninth will be given as a holiday in lieu of Pan American Day. In recognition of Garifuna Settlement Day which will be on a Sunday; November 20 will be given as a holiday and for the Christmas season, Monday, December 25 and Tuesday, December 26 will be public and bank holidays. The holiday listings for 2017 was issued by the Government’s Press Office and is in accordance with Section Three of the First and Second Schedules to Holidays Act, Chapter 289 of the Laws of Belize.
